In the Zhejiang Province in China, I had the chance to visit a traditional Chinese Medicine pharmacy that was first established almost 200 years ago. It was fascinating to see the roots, herbs, and teas. I even had a brief consultation with a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine! He explained to me that in Tradicional Chinese Medicine, the concept of yin and yang apply to the human body as well as to the universe in Daoism.
Yin represents qualities such as coolness, moisture, rest, nourishment and structure. It is associated with the body's substance, including blood, fluids, and tissues.
Yang represents warmth, dryness, activity, function, and movement. It is linked to the body's energy, metabolic processes, and protective forces.
The key is to keep them in harmonious balance. According to the doctor I had a consultation with, who looked at my tongue, my coloration, my body's overall appearance, my voice, and also my pulse, I tend to have an excess of Yang, and need to slow down sometimes. That seems very practical.
